Both series typically have years-long development cycles, so it'll be a while yet before a new entry comes out. Splatoon 3 launched less than a year ago, and the highly anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom releases in just a few weeks. Whether that would be new releases or existing titles upgraded for the new hardware wasn't clear. So I'm still holding out for a true successor like the Nintendo Switch 2 instead, hopefully packing improved battery life and a fix for that dreaded Joy-Con drift. I'm with my colleague in feeling that it's too late in the Nintendo Switch's life cycle for a piecemeal Switch Pro upgrade. Despite Nintendo’s repeated denial on the matter, rumors of the Nintendo Switch Pro continue to persist. A rumor claims the Nintendo Switch 2 could arrive in late 2024. The company later added that the OLED's launch is slated for October of this year and that there are "no plans for launching any other model at this time." Nintendo took to Twitter from its corporate account to immediately deny those claims, saying: "A news report on J(JST) claimed that the profit margin of the Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) would increase compared to the Nintendo Switch. The original report said that the OLED estimated around $10 more per unit to manufacture, which was correlated to a higher profit margin for the company. ![]() Shortly after the reveal, Bloomberg reported that the Switch OLED had a higher profit margin. The rumors gained momentum when credible sources within the gaming industry claimed that Nintendo was working on a new model, tentatively named the Switch Pro. Both have been firmly shut down by Nintendo itself. Ever since the release of the original Nintendo Switch in 2017, gamers have been eagerly anticipating an upgraded version of the console. That being said, there have been several rumors and reports that have followed up the reveal, including that there is a new model (the long-rumored Switch Pro) still in the works and that the profit margin for the OLED is higher than the standard Switch. With the Nintendo Switch OLED announced with direct ethernet access in the dock, an improved screen, and other small upgrades, many in the hybrid platform community love the next step for the handheld.
